Daniel J. Rothstein
Mr. Rothstein began law practice in 1987 at the litigation specialty firm Stein, Zauderer, Ellenhorn, Frischer & Sharp and joined our firm in 2005. Following law school, he clerked for Judges Howard G. Munson (U.S. District Court, N.D.N.Y.), Albert J. Engel (U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit), and Aharon Barak and Eliezer Goldberg (Israel Supreme Court). From 1990 to 2000, Mr. Rothstein practiced law in Russia, where he worked in the Russian privatization ministry, in a law firm that he co-founded, and in large international law firms, including McDermott Will & Emery, where he was a partner. His practice in Russia focused on commercial transactions involving foreign investors. He also represented several Russian governmental agencies in negotiating and administering sovereign loans from the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Since returning to the United States in 2000, Mr. Rothstein has concentrated in litigation with an international orientation. Recent cases include defending a New York law firm in a legal malpractice case arising out of advice on Russian securities transactions, pursuing the claims of an Israeli health care provider against its U.S. fundraiser, and representing a generic drug manufacturer in an antitrust case against its generic competitor. Mr. Rothstein speaks fluent Russian and Hebrew and has a working knowledge of German.
